Carbonic anhydrase IX (CAIX) is a transmembrane metalloenzyme that contributes to the regulation of the pH outside and inside the cell and is often upregulated in cancer cells. CAIX has a unique disordered region (IDR) that plays a key role in both catalytic and noncatalytic activity of CAIX, yet there is little known about its structure. This project will provide detailed structural information about the IDR of CAIX which could elucidate its influence on CAIX activity.
