The aim of the project proposal is to develop a comprehensive methodological procedure for determining the degree of floodplain disturbance in current conditions, based on the identification and assessment of basic ecosystem functions and services provided by floodplain and riverine ecosystems. On the basis of this procedure, it will be possible to establish certain threshold values for selected important eco-stabilising functions of the floodplain, the exceedance of which may impair the quality of fulfilment of these functions and the subsequent provision of ecosystem services. The procedure will take into account current and predicted natural conditions and the different levels of anthropogenic pressure acting in the floodplains of major and minor watercourses. The project results will contribute to ensuring a balance between the use of floodplain ecosystems and the conditions necessary to ensure the fulfilment of a number of important functions.
